On Friday, August 31, 2007, Smokin' Joe and I headed toward the coast
to meet up with our Gulf Coast Chapter for the Summertime Blues Festival in
Freeport on Saturday. We made it to the general area where we were going to be
staying Friday evening around 6:30 PM. Pistol and Riptide met us and escorted
us out to our accommodations. Then, we met with Trouble, Pistol, Riptide, and
some other good folks and went out to eat Seafood at EJ's in Angleton. After
enjoying some great seafood and fellowship, we headed over to Trouble's house
and visited some more. Then we headed back to the Lodge, after a long day's
ride, to get some much needed rest for the Blues Festival the next day.
Saturday morning, Pistol and Riptide met us early at the Lodge, and we rode over
to Goe Harley Davidson in Angleton, where we met up with Trouble,
Garfield, Blacksmith, and Trouble's cousin Sticker. We hung out at the Harley
store for a little while and drank coffee and did some shopping. Then, we all
headed on down the road toward Freeport. We stopped and had Mexican food for
breakfast and/or lunch as it was around 11:30 AM at La Loma. We took the scenic
route and had a really nice ride. We finally arrived in Freeport, at the
Summertime Blues Festival, where we checked out the vendors, had a few cold
drinks, listened to the music, watched the parade, and had a great time visiting
among ourselves and with other people. Some of the members got a special
treat....as one of the spectators (an older drunk lady) proceeded to show them
all of her piercings (which some were in areas that should not have been shown
in public, especially since there were small children around)! I think that
they got a "not so special surprise" when that happened, as they were pretty
well ruined for the rest of the day!!! From what I was told, it was a vision
that they would rather forget but probably won't be able to anytime soon!! What
can I say....sometimes we are exposed to things that we would rather not be, but
shit happens!
Garfield and Blacksmith decided to head on back a little early, so we said our
goodbye's to them. Then shortly afterwards, we left the Blues Festival a little
early as it was threatening to storm. It was thundering and lightening, and so
on, so we decided to hop on our bikes and ride back to Trouble's house to pick
up some stuff that he needed for the evening, as several members were going to
stay at the Lodge with Smokin' Joe and me Saturday evening. We stopped in
Angleton and ate at Chili's and then rode back to the Lodge. We ran into rain
about 5 miles from the Lodge, so luckily, we didn't get too wet. We made it to
the Lodge, and after drying off, we all gathered out on the patio where we all
sat around visiting for the next several hours. Finally, around 2 AM, most of
us retired for the evening. It had been a really good day. The weather had
held out pretty good, we got a good ride in, and enjoyed plenty of good food and
fellowship.
Sunday morning, we all slept in, and as we woke up, one by one, we all found
ourselves gathered back out on the patio for a morning of drinking coffee,
eating donuts, visiting, and of course, watching the rain! Around 11:30 AM,
Smokin' Joe and I loaded up and headed back home on our 4 hour ride. Everyone
had a good weekend (except for those who got the extra little surprise), and we
all made it home safely. It was a great weekend filled with a lot of great
fellowship, some great riding, lots of eating and just enjoying the simple
things that life has to offer.
