Beer, bourbon, dirt, sweat, chlorine, and heat. Some of the elements
that make a road trip to the Texas hill country one of the best rides
I’ve ever been on. Add thirteen other awesome people, and well, you end
up with one hell of a weekend. We all met up at Republic Harley Davidson in Stafford at 9:00am. We hung out for about an hour, and then it was time to get the kickstands up and get rolling. The weather was great, and the ride was even better. We stopped around 1:00pm in Gonzalez and had lunch and then got back on the road. Just getting to our destination was such an awesome ride. We stopped in Gruene to check out the local Harley shop. We also stopped at a really cool ice house right on the Guadalupe River. After riding in the heat of the day, it sure was tempting to jump into that cold water. We finally got to Medina at about 5:30pm. We unpacked and then went up to the restaurant/grocery store for some catfish and drinks. We then loaded up on refreshments for a relaxing evening at the pool. The night ended for most of the crew about 1:00am. Saturday morning came quick and it was time to get ready for some hard riding. We went into Kerville for some breakfast and fuel. We then headed for the hills to ride 3 different roads known by most bikers as the Twisted Sisters. We were fortunate to have two of our brothers that were familiar with these roads leading the way. Thanks Chip and Skywalker. Between the scenery and the wildlife, this was probably the most awesome ride I’ve been on since I’ve owned a bike. You’ll just have to look at the photos to see what I’m talking about. There’s no way I can describe it. After a kick ass ride like that, we headed into Bandera to cool down and have some dinner. We then decided it was time for more beer, bourbon, and swimming. We hung out by the pool for most of the evening, and then went to bed to get rested up for the long ride back to reality. Pistol and I got home about 3:30pm on Sunday, clocking more than 800 miles on our bikes. With no breakdowns, no drama, and no bitching, it couldn’t get any better. Thanks to all my brothers and sisters, Trouble and Terrianne, Skywalker and Aggie, Chip, Sticker and Stacy, Darrel and Debbie, Mike and Kim, Ralph, and my beautiful wife Pistol, for a great weekend.
