We are looking for more couples and singles to join our association. Please read on and learn more about our association, and you may find this to be the type of social group you have been looking for. The Sons of Texas Motorcycle Touring Association is about friendship and brotherhood. Our primary mission is to enhance our members' lives through the sharing of our great Texas Heritage and build lasting and fulfilling relationships with other members. We enjoy riding the back roads of Texas, visiting historical sites and points of interest, attending such events as rallies, drag races, and swap meets and have as much fun as possible in the process. Our association also likes to show it's support to it's community and other organizations such as B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse), A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education), and as many other organizations and charities as possible by attending benefits, charities and fundraisers. By doing this, we hope to be able to help people in need while enjoying riding our motorcycles in the process. We also attend many charities, fundraisers, and benefits for individuals in various areas throughout Texas who need extra assistance with medical expenses, etc.
Plain and simple the Sons of Texas is all about having fun, trying to help others in need, and developing lifelong friendships. We also enjoy camping and cook-outs. In general, we like to have a good time, and we do it on our motorcycles with our families. We are couples oriented and encourage our members to bring their spouse into the association as well or at least bring them along as often as possible. Both men and women wear patches, vote, hold offices and ride. We prefer motorcycles that are 1000cc or larger. Nothing against the smaller bikes but depending on the riders size they may have a hard time keeping up and going the distance on our rides and the crotch rockets would probably rather go faster than we typically ride. We do require our members to pass a background check. When you join our association you will read, sign and agree to the bylaws, and we will hold you to it. We do not tolerate rude and obnoxious behavior; fighting or bullies, there will be no foul language, sexual harassment, lewd or indecent acts or anything illegal. Starting a New Chapter – If you have at least 5 people, and are in an area that doesn't have a SOT chapter, we would be interested in talking with you about starting a new chapter. New chapters are always formed by existing members with a full set of patches or "Charter Members" which we bring in specifically to start a new chapter. Charter Members and prospects will still be on the 90 day probation period. Charter Members will be expected to pay the full membership fees up front and will receive their full set of patches. Charter members and probates or prospects all wear two white ghost feathers on their backs. Once the probation is over, those two white ghost feathers will be replaced with spirit feathers. When we charter a new chapter, the prospective members will meet with state officers, and if they are approved, the state president will appoint an acting chapter president to preside over the chapter for the first 90 days under the close supervision of the state offices. After 90 days, they will elect officers and function like any other chapter. Subsequent members to that chapter will come in and prospect per the bylaws. Prospective members will be required to pay the $50.00 background check. Upon completion of their 90 day probationary period, and upon being voted in by their local chapter, they will be required to pay the initial membership fee of $125.00 which covers the cost of their full set of patches. Upon payment, they will be issued a full set of patches. This probationary phase is a minimum of 90 days but is not complete until their chapter says it is. The time period allows the association to observe the prospective member's riding habits and temperament before the decision is made to bring them into their chapter. THERE WILL BE NO HAZING! Prospects and members will be treated with respect by all members until such time as they have proven themselves unworthy of that respect, at that point they will be voted out. We will treat each other with honor and respect by default, and if you can’t do that, you probably don’t belong with us. If this sounds like something that you can relate to, and you are interested in becoming a member, please contact me at sgtsmokinjoe@sbcglobal.net
Please be sure to include something about the Sons of Texas in the subject line.
Thanks, Smokin' Joe |
